Why does this matter?

Because the right to health - including reproductive, maternal and child health - is a human right and we want this topic to be prioritised by every country and every government. By targeting influential countries and popular Twitter users within that country, we want to raise awareness of midwifery. We want to challenge people to lend their voice to mothers and children, who desperately need to be heard.

Speak up for Midwifery

For many pregnant women in low income countries a midwife is a rare luxury. Too many women die or lose their children just because women’s health is not a priority. Raise awareness about the importance of midwifery and how the world can become a safer place for women and children.

In 2013, 289 000 women died due to complications in pregnancy or childbirth.

In the same year, 3 million newborns died during their first month of life.

Two thirds of these deaths could have been prevented by access to midwifery.
